Speargun & Polespear Band Sizes

Making your own bands is easy and costs a lot less than buying pre-made bands, but that is not the only reason to make your own bands:

  • Pre-made euro bands do not use the best quality latex. The properties and manufacturing techniques used in the production of latex made in the USA is by far superior to European latex.
  • For Safety reasons, spearos are moving away from metal wishbones. Making your own bands with cord style wishbones allows you to adopt your preferred style of wishbone that is much safer.
  • Metal wishbones also break without warning and can ruin your day. A worn or frayed corded wishbone is easy to spot, giving you advanced notice for a quick and easy change out.
  • You customize the length of your bands, thereby changing the amount of strength needed for loading. Spearos with shorter arms, pre-existing injuries or those that lack the required loading strength can add a couple of inches making it easier to load. Obviously, altering band lengths too far outside the recommended band lengths will alter the trajectory of the shaft. Therefore, for spearos wanting easier loading bands can simply make their bands a little longer. As their strength and loading techniques improve, the bands can be shortened.
